Abstract:

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) has 180 standing committees that cover all modes and areas of transportation. To mark the approach of the new millennium, the committees mounted a special effort to capture the current state of the art and practice and to provide perspectives on future directions in their areas. The papers published in this circular present the efforts of the committees that focus on transportation data, statistics, and information technology. Eight papers address freight transportation data, the future of urban transportation data, locating data, travel surveys, spatial data technologies, information technology issues and the future, geographic information systems, and national transportation statistics. These papers, along with Millennium Papers from other committees, are also available on the TRB website (http://www.trb.org/publications/PubsMillenniumPapers.aspx).
