Abstract: The prioritization of transport infrastructure projects is often supported by an adaptation of the classical transportation model in which the trip generation step is handled as an inelastic model. In order to improve the fit of freight generation models and to give elasticity to them with respect to changes in the transport system, in the context of the main Colombian agricultural products, the present work calibrates elastic models for coffee, bananas and sugar cane. An approach based on geographical analysis was used to include accessibility indicators as explanatory variables in the freight generation models, in order to analyze the impact that new transport infrastructure produces in agricultural production. A geographic information system was used to calculate three accessibility indicators: Location, potential market, and daily accessibility, which were specified in freight generation models. The results showed that the daily accessibility indicator, which belongs to the group of isochrones, calculated based on a threshold of 500 km, was the best performing accessibility variable. Based on modelling results for the three agricultural products, it showed a positive effect of accessibility on agricultural production, proving a strong link between daily accessibility and the consumption centers located within the perimeter defined by the threshold. Evaluating the model to predict the impact of a new transport infrastructure project showed that changes in agricultural production were not significant, suggesting that the size of the project is possibly crucial in freight generation.
