Title: Enhancing Access to a Nation’s Land Transport Information: A Digitization Case Study
Accession Number: 01622804
Record Type: Component
Abstract: The main drivers for digitization of hard-copy collections are improvements in information access and reductions in physical storage requirements. For these to be realised however there are decisions to be made on resourcing both the digitization process and the establishment and maintenance of the repository in which they will be housed. This paper outlines the journey that the MG Lay Library at ARRB Group in Australia has taken since mid-2014 to develop the ARRB Knowledge Base, now a full text searchable and freely accessible repository of over 10,000 published documents. In doing so the paper also aims to highlight the benefits of a nationally funded program to support land transport information management.
Supplemental Notes: This paper was sponsored by TRB committee ABG40 Standing Committee on Library and Information Science for Transportation.
