A person who has an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) that weighs between 0.55 and 55 pounds and wants to fly it outdoors must register it on the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) registration website (https://registermyuas.faa.gov/). Failure to register before launching a UAS outdoors can result in civil and criminal penalties. Registration costs $5 and is valid for three years.
