Abstract:

This issue contains 20 papers about pedestrians. Specific topics addressed in this issue include the following: rectangular rapid flashing beacons and pedestrian hybrid beacons; countdown pedestrian signals; automated pedestrian safety analysis at signalized intersections; microscopic pedestrian interaction behavior analysis; pedestrian safety practitioners’ perspectives on driver yielding behavior; community-based pedestrian and bicycle safety programs; and the built environment and pedestrian fatal crash risk. Additional topics addressed in the issue include: crossing time of pedestrian platoons; level of service at signalized intersections; leading pedestrian intervals; multiple correspondence analysis in vehicle-pedestrian crashes; pedestrian level of service methods; differences between walking and bicycling over time; gap acceptance models for midblock crossing locations; and route choice models.
