Abstract: Using multi-day multi-period travel diaries data of 56-day (four waves of two-week diary) for 67 individuals in Stockholm, this study aims to answer one research question, i.e. how work and study durations and various types of working schedule durations (fixed, shift, partial- and full-flexible) including weather characteristics affect individuals’ day-to-day leisure activity participation decisions. This is realised by using dynamic ordered Probit models with day-to-day number of leisure activity participation as dependent variable. A pooled model (56-day) and wave-specific models (14-day each) are estimated. The effects of various types of working schedule durations are estimated by using 28-day of two waves’ data (Wave 3 and Wave 4) due to the availability of the working schedule type’s data. The results show that the leisure activity participation decision is not influenced by in-home mandatory (e.g. telework and study at home) and maintenance (e.g. laundry, cleaning, taking care of other household members) activities, but significantly influenced by out-of-home work durations in all models. Individuals with shift working schedule duration type engage less in leisure activities compared to others. In general, the weather characteristics (e.g. thermal indicator) play an important role in individuals’ decisions to participate in leisure activities, whilst the influences of socio-demographic variables vary across waves.
