However, agencies have experienced initial public rejection of proposed roundabouts and have had to modify their approaches and strategies in presenting them to shift that opinion over time. Public apprehension of roundabouts is not unique. While facts and figures have been presented to the public on their effectiveness to generate support for projects, the public has remained skeptical about their benefits. In light of this, it is necessary to identify other effective and efficient strategies to use in public meetings and other venues. The research presented here examined how agencies have handled roundabout education and outreach. It was found that that the types of information provided to the public on roundabouts has generally been centered on how to use them, highlighting the safety and other general benefits they provide. Approaches available to conduct roundabout education and outreach include public meetings, television and radio commercials , brochures and pamphlets, newspaper, videos, simulations, conceptual images, booths, public displays, posters, models, websites, social media, demonstrations, direct mailing, telephone hotlines and general materials. Depending on the type of media employed, the amount of information conveyed can be brief/concise or quite detailed.
