Abstract:

MEYERS COMMENTS ON MEASURING THE DENSITY AND MOISTURE CONTENT OF SUBGRADES SUPPORTING FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS; THESE PAVEMENTS CONSIST OF A STABILIZED BASE COURSE WITH A BITUMINOUS SURFACE TREATMENT. HOGENTOGLER AND BARBER REVIEW THE STABILITY OF HIGHWAYS BY CONSIDERING: THE FLOW OF WATER IN SATURATED COHESIONLESS MATERIALS; SUPPORTING VALUE OF SOIL AFFECTED BY ITS WEIGHT; EFFECTIVE WEIGHT VARIATIONS; CAPILLARY PRESSURE INCREASE WITH THE LENGTH OF THE SUSTAINED COLUMNS OF CAPILLARY MOISTURE; THE RELATION OF CAPILLARY RISE AND FLOW OF GRAVITATIONAL MOISTURE; FIELD CONDITIONS; HUMIDITY AND EVAPORATION; FROST PHENOMENA; TEMPERATURE; AND HYDRODYNAMIC EFFECTS OF SOIL MOISTURE. PORTER DISCUSSES SOIL MOISTURE CONTENT AND DENSITY EXPERIMENTS WITH VARIOUS CLAY SOILS.
