Abstract:

PART III DESCRIBES THE RESULTS OF A STUDY ON THE AMOUNT OF CLAY PRESENT IN THE SOIL. TEST DATA FOR THE DEEP WISCONSIN (PEORIAN) LOESS OF SOUTHWESTERN IOWA AFFORDS A RARE OPPORTUNITY FOR SUCH A STUDY WITH NATURAL SOIL. GRAPHS SHOW THAT THE LIQUID LIMIT, PLASTIC LIMIT, PLASTICITY INDEX, SHRINKAGE LIMIT, CENTRIFUGE MOISTURE EQUIVALENT, HYGROSCOPIC MOISTURE, FIELD (IN-PLACE) DENSITY, AND FIELD MOISTURE CONTENT HAVE AN APPARENT LINEAR RELATIONSHIP WITH 0.002-MM-CLAY CONTENT. /AUTHOR/
