Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: In Washington State transportation is responsible for 47% of all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and is the largest source of emissions among the sectors of the economy. In 2009, the state legislature passed ambitious GHG reduction goals, including a 35% reduction in per capita vehicle miles traveled (VMT) by 2035. The challenge of reducing VMT heightens the importance of other potential measures to reduce GHGs, such as clean cars, clean fuels, and the necessary supporting infrastructure. One of these measures, which is being focused on by the Washington State Department of Transportation's innovative public-private partnership strategy, is the West Coast Green Highway Initiative, a multistate partnership to showcase sustainable transportation projects and policies along the Interstate 5 corridor. This initiative has provided a network of quick-charging stations for electric vehicles, approxmately every 30 miles along the 276 miles of Interstate 5.
