THIS PAPER OUTLINES THE ORGANIZATION AND DESCRIBES THE SCOPE OF WORK UNDERTAKEN IN THE TRAFFIC AND SAFETY DIVISION OF THE ROAD RESEARCH LABORATORY, ONE OF THE ESTABLISHMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SCIENTIFIC AND INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH. THE RESEARCH STAFF OF THE DIVISION, CHIEFLY PHYSICISTS AND MATHEMATICIANS, ARE GROUPED INTO SIX SECTIONS UNDER THE FOLLOWING HEADINGS: THE ROAD USER, TRAFFIC FLOW AND ROAD LAYOUT, SKIDDING, VEHICLE PERFORMANCE, VEHICLE AND STREET LIGHTING, STATISTICS.
