Abstract:

This is the first letter report to Victor Mendez, administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and John Horsley, executive director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee on Implementing the Research Results of the Second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2). The committee’s first report includes recommendations to FHWA, AASHTO, and TRB on defining the roles and relationships of the organizations involved in SHRP 2 implementation; deployment of early SHRP 2 products; implementation activities in the context of the overall strategic philosophy of each SHRP 2 focus area; the investigation of models for long-term support for information technology products; and the development of options for strategic approaches to SHRP 2 implementation planning and resource allocation.
