Abstract:

This issue contains 17 papers on the following aspects of pedestrians: automatic pedestrian detectors; pedestrian sensor data quality; sign visibility for pedestrians; safety at unsignalized, marked midblock crosswalks; signal timings for two-stage, midblock pedestrian crosswalks; signal-based countermeasures for pedestrian safety; phase optimization at intersections with minimization of vehicle and pedestrian delays; crossing behaviors at signalized intersections; pedestrian activity modeling at signalized intersections; rates of physical activity by low-income and minority populations; greenway use; pedestrian models for predicting walking behavior; probability models for pedestrian injury severity; pedestrian safety programs in the centers of large cities; logistic regression model of fatality risk in vehicle-pedestrian crashes; using video sensors to estimate the frequency and length of pedestrian stride; and evaluating the accessibility of complex intersections.
