Title: Intra-household Dynamics and Sequential Moves in a Housing Search Process
Accession Number: 01340452
Record Type: Component
Abstract: Residential location studies employing discrete choice models dominate in housing research. Relatively little is known about how people search. And yet, insights from understanding how people search can potentially improve the residential location models by providing a more realistic way to generate individual choice sets. In this paper, using the data from over two hundred face-to-face interviews conducted in the New York City region, the authors examine the role of intra-household dynamics and the dynamics played out during the sequential moves of a search. The authors results verify the role of intra-household dynamics. In addition, renters appear to follow a more consistent spatial pattern than buyers.
