Title: Exploration of Laboratory Technique for Tire-Pavement Noise Assessment of Hot-Mix Asphalts
Accession Number: 01333348
Record Type: Component
Abstract: Purdue University’s Tire-Pavement Test Apparatus (TPTA) was used to measure tire-pavement noise generation on samples of asphalt pavements. One porous friction course mixture, one stone matrix asphalt mixture, and four Superpave dense-graded asphalt mixtures were designed and fabricated using a specially developed compaction procedure. Although the produced samples had low on-board sound intensity levels, their air void contents were higher than the designed values. These discrepancies were related to the inability to produce high enough compaction levels using the procedure adopted for this study.
