Title: DISTRIBUTION OF WHEEL LOADS THROUGH VARIOUS RUBBER TIRES
Accession Number: 00207149
Record Type: Component
Availability: Transportation Research Board Business Office 500 Fifth Street, NW Abstract: THE LOAD DISTRIBUTION WAS DETERMINED BY MEASURING THE PRESSURE EXERTED ON FIVE TRANSVERSE SECTIONS OF THE CONTACT AREA OF THE TIRE. THE METHOD CONSISTED IN MEASURING THE DEFLECTION OF TEN CALIBRATED SPRINGS SO PLACED IN A FRAME THAT THE LOAD WAS REGISTERED FOR TRANSVERSE SEGMENTS 2-1/2 INCHES IN WIDTH ACROSS THE TREAD OF THE TIRE. DATA ARE PRESENTED FOR SOLID CUSHION AND PNEUMATIC TIRES. THE GREATEST STRESS IN THE CONTACT AREA FOR ALL THE TIRE TYPES WAS FOUND AT THE POINT WHERE THE PLANE OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE AXLE IS NORMAL TO THE PAVEMENT.
